Old

I remember this old, old sewing machine. It is attached to this old cabinet. I suspect the sewing machine part is antique or nearly so. I remember my Mom using this once or twice, but it has most recently sat, unused in my basement for years. I don't remember how I came to be in possession of this old beauty, but I'm sure glad I did.

As I said, this has sat untouched in various places in various houses I've lived in for years. Most recently it held our cereal dispenser in the kitchen. Now? The time has come! To display this in all it's glory! I now have a place to put it where I can see it everyday. I just need to figure out if it actually works where I want to put it. Tell me, what do you think? My plan is to sand off the rough edges, and give the cabinet a few coats of a yummy paint colour, though I'm not telling yet what colour yet. I intend to polish the sewing machine as well. Keep in mind the red bookshelf is being replaced with a dark black/brown one.

This is how I currently have decorated

This is where I would like to put this sewing machine.
I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Sew A Little Something

I took today to make a little something for my favorite Little Bear. I had a few scrapes of things leftover from my recent sewing frenzy, and I put together a skirt for Little Bears Doll. The scraps came from a sewing project I did for Little Bears dance class. So now her and Meagan (the doll) can match!

First: I took the lower leg from some old jeans, to cut the main skirt from. I measured the waist of the doll, then cut a length 1 and half times as long as the measurement. The jeans I used weren't long enough so I just sewed 2 pieces together. The length of the skirt is the measurement from the Doll's waist to the knee.

Second: I cut a strip of fabric 3 inches wide, and 3 times as long as the waist measurement to make a ruffle. Fold the width of ruffle in half, and baste together. Gather up the ruffle and sew onto the skirt.

Third: I made a casing for the elastic, threaded the elastic through and TA-DA! All done!

The Family Craft

I have stumbled across a wonderful LDS resource, a blog, it is full of excellent ideas, and after spending about 2 hours looking through the archives, my head was swimming with so many ideas. On of the more recent posts included a free printable craft that we did for Family Home Evening yesterday. Papa Bear isn't home on Mondays, so we try to have our FHE on Sundays, but if we forget or I am not prepared most often it goes un-done. Well this week we had Papa Bear home, and so I pulled out the pages I had printed off and we put together the cutest little banner. Each of the pennants have a key word on them, which was taken from The Family: A Proclamation to The World. To see the Blog I adore, click ---> HERE

Little Bear and I cut them out while Papa Bear read parts of The Proclamation to us.

We hot glued the pennants onto some ribbon I had on hand.

We put our banner up in the living room where we can see it all the time. Super easy, and super cute!

Bingo!

It is General Conference in two weeks, and we are really looking forward to it. We, like a lot of families, struggle with keeping a child quiet, and happy while we attend a session. Well, we have hit on a really great idea, and I wanted to share it with you. Yesterday after Church, we made a list of everything we could think of that someone might talk about in a conference talk. We then took these and put them in a 5 X 5 grid and made some conference bingo cards. The idea is that you put a treat of some kind on each square, and when that topic is mentioned the child gets to eat that treat. We included a few names of Apostles, and the First Presidency to make it a little harder for Little Bear. We would be happy to email you a copy of our Bingo card, just leave us your email address.

My Purse

This is totally silly, but I thought it would be fun to post about something other than my dis-satisfaction with my kitchen organization. I saw this on 2 other blogs, and the "rules" are that you photograph everything in your purse right now, without cleaning it or sorting it first. SO! Here it is:

My pure, that I bought at Wal-Mart for $12. It is just the right size for all my stuff, and I guess it is cute because it has been almost stolen by 2 of my sisters and my mother.

Contents:
Notebook & pen - for writing down things I would never remember
Red cover for my iPod - got it at the dollar store,
Keys - Funny thing, the 2 blogs that have done this that I read, did not have keys in any of the pictures. I wonder where their keys are?
Lotion - Dry hands
Gum
Lip stuff - Which I never use
Wallet - I LOVE my wallet!
Generally if I am going out I put my cell phone in my bag, I don't keep it there usually. Also missing is my chapstick! I wonder where it went?

So there you have it! I only needed 2 pictures! What's in your purse? Dare to share?

Run With Me

I took up running at the beginning of the school year, and I have fallen in love! I love to run, be outside, even when it is chilly I enjoy a good solid run. It has become my goal to run a half marathon, so, I started looking for one. I found a really good one, highly recommended by people I know who have run it. The only downside? It isn't until September! I was ready to go now! So I kept looking, and I have found the perfect race. It is perfect for me on so many levels.

First - it is close by to where I live
Second - the proceeds go to a worthy cause
Third - it is a run put on by my relative

I will be running the Legacy Half Marathon. I want to invite you to - Run With Me. On May 28, 2011, I will be running in memory of my Aunt who lost her battle with Breast Cancer. I have been challenged by my younger brother to have a finish time of 2 hours 30 minutes or less, if I succeed he will donate $25 to cancer research. If you cannot run with me, can I encourage you to make a donation? I hope you do.

* I have a 12 week half marathon training schedule that starts next Monday, March 7. Leave a comment below with your email address, and I will send you a copy.

Mexican

This has nothing to do with a holiday, I WISH!
Here at the Bear house we love our tacos, we love them even more now that we have mastered the fine art of homemade guacamole. Y-U-M. Up until about 4 months ago, I had never even tried an avocado. Papa Bear served his mission in an area where they were readily available and consumed them often. I am now a guac convert. I love it!

With this new found love of the green stuff, you can imagine tacos were appearing on our menu more often. It began to get pricey to eat them so much, and this led to our, somewhat forced, next move.

We made tortillas

we. made. tortillas.

Rolled out!

Fried up perfectly!

Taco insides! MMmmm
Super easy! Super CHEAP!
